Eight Nepali students have arrived to University of Ruhuna on 14th September. They are here under study exchange programme between Tribhuvan University and University of Ruhuna.There are 5 Sri Lankan students in the programme and in total 13 students will follow their third and fourth semester studies at University of Ruhuna.The semester will commence from 21st September, 2015.

The guest lecture on ‘Social Stratification and Conflict Management’

The guest lecture was held on 09th June, 2015 from 2pm -4pm. The guest lecture also organized in connection with the Memorial Day of Professor Ranaweera M. Banda. The event took Place at Ranaweera M. Banda Memorial hall, Department of Sociology, University of Ruhuna.  The vice chancellor of University of Ruhuna, Senior professor Gamini Senanayake attended the event including Deputy Vice Chancellor and some other respected guests. The guest lecture was delivered by Professor Kalinga Tudor Silva on ‘Social Stratification and Conflict Transformation’.

Visiting Faculty

Ms. Meena Bhatta recently visited university of Ruhuna and delivered the lectures to Master students on the subject of Economics of Conflict. Exchanging the academic faculty is one of the major features of the collaboration between University of Ruhuna and University of Tribhuvan,Nepal.

Jaffna- Anuradhapura Visit

CPDS staff  of Ruhuna, Senior Prof. Sarath Amarasinghe and program Coordinator Mr. Upali Pannila along with Prof. Hemraj Subedi , CPDS-Coordinator from Tribhuvan University and CPDS students in Ruhuna  visited Jaffna and Anuradhapura in Noevember 2014. It was a two days visit and students had good exposure to the other side of Sri Lanka. Some photos of this trip is available in ‘Gallery’.

Project Management Committee established

The first Management Committee meeting of the Strengthening Research, Education and Advocacy in Conflict, Peace and Development Studies (NORHED- CPDS) Project held on 13th of March 2015 at the Vice Chancellor’s Office, University of Ruhuna, Management Commitee plays an important role in the NORHED-CPDS project. It monitors and evaluates all areas of the project performance.

The committee is chaired by Senior Prof.Gamini  Senanayake- The Vice Chancellor, University of Ruhuna.Senior Prof. S.W. Amarasinghe is appointed as the representative of the Department of Sociology. The Management Committee scheduled  to meet on  quarterly basis.

NORHED – CPDS New Project Assistant

NORHED-CPDS has hired a project Assistant. Ms. Nelum Sandamali started her duty from 20th April,2015. She was a former student of MA in Conflict ,Peace and Development Studeis.

On-going research Projects

In order to strengthen research capacity in Conflict, Peace and Development disciplines in the partner universities, NORHED-CPDS project of Ruhuna University has provided small research grant for university academics. Following are the ongoing –research projects funded by NORHED-CPDS. All the projects are due in December,2015.
