Research, Education and Advocacy in Conflict, Peace and Development Studies

Strengthening Research, Education and Advocacy in Conflict, Peace and Development Studies project is a collaborative effort of four academic institutions namely, Tribhuvan University in Nepal (TU) , Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU), Norway, University of Ruhuna (RU) Sri Lanka, COMSATS Institute of Information Technology(CIIT),Pakistan.  The project has been financed by the Norwegian Programme for Capacity Development in Higher Education and Research for Development (NORHED).

The Sri Lankan component of the project is been implemented by the Department of Sociology, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Ruhuna in collaboration with the Centre for International Affairs.

Project Goal: Strengthened the capacities of higher education institutes in conflict management, peace building and democratic & economic governance

This project has three major components, they are:

  1. Education- Establish two years Multidisciplinary Regional Master Degree Program in Conflict Peace and Development Studies (CPDS) with both a teaching and research component.
  2. Research-Develop mechanisms for establishing capacities of research, education and outreach services on conflict, governance and gender in higher education institutions.
  3. Knowledge Sharing– Develop mechanisms for strengthening and institutionalizing democratic decision making processes.
